Comeback surprise: Dino Corak saves HSV Hamburg in the top game!
The handball team from Hamburg reacted to the unexpected injury of pivot Andreas Magaard and quickly brought back former professional Dino Corak. The 29-year-old athlete, who actually ended his career last summer, was given a short-term contract to fill the gap left by Magaard's absence. Corak will make his comeback this Thursday when HSV Hamburg meets THW Kiel at 3 p.m. in the Barclays Arena.
The deal, which came about surprisingly, is also due to a promise that Corak made to the new vice president and ex-keeper Jogi Bitter. “At the beginning I was unsure whether I could do it because I have a lot going on privately,” explained Corak. "But in the end my interest won out and Jogi reminded me of the promise I made when I left. I agreed to help the team if I could."
Dino Corak's return to HSV Hamburg
Corak is willing to put his personal concerns aside to support the team in this critical phase. "I've been doing a lot of sport recently and feel athletically fit. I'm convinced that I can support the team immediately," said Corak confidently. His new contract in Hamburg runs until November, as Magaard will be out for several weeks due to a broken finger.
It will be a special challenge for Corak, because the opponent in the DHB Cup is none other than THW Kiel, which is considered one of the strongest handball clubs in Germany. Hamburg go into this duel as underdogs, as they have never been able to win against the record champions in the past (one draw and five defeats). Nevertheless, the draw from last year, when the game ended 28:28, remains a memory that gives hope for another exciting game.
