Night patrol in Hamburg: insights into the everyday life of the police!
The ARD documentary series “Nachtstreife” offers an authentic insight into police work in Hamburg. On January 8, 2025, NDR reported that the program would follow ten officers in various areas of the Hamburg police in five new episodes. These include the Davidwache, the water police, the permanent criminal service and the Hamm and Bergedorf police stations.
The latest season shows the challenges faced by the police in a large city with over 1.9 million inhabitants. The missions address, among other things, special operations situations involving the use of firearms, prostitution fraud, robbery offenses as well as everyday cases such as disturbances of the peace and insults. The officers report on their experiences in interviews and reflect on their police approach in dealing with victims, accused and witnesses.
Contents of the documentary series
The series includes a total of three police police teams that cover different areas in Hamburg:
- Polizeikommissariat 15 (Davidwache): Unter der Leitung von Lena Priebusch (40) und Christian Werner Dorn (36) auf St. Pauli und der Reeperbahn.
- Polizeikommissariat 43 (Bergedorf): Caren Loose (27) und Dennis Wolff (35) im größten innerstädtischen Reviergebiet Europas.
- Polizeikommissariat 41 (Hamm): Kathrin Mosor (29) und Sebastian Fuchs (39) in der Nähe des Hamburger Hauptbahnhofs.
In addition, the water police with Sarah Prüsmann (43) and Danny Koch (48) are shown for the first time. The permanent criminal service is represented by Katrin Kernig (41) and Michael Walther (42).
The fourth season of “Nachtstreife” was produced by Die Company LS Media GmbH on behalf of NDR and has been available in the ARD media library since December 30, 2024. This expansion of the previous seasons, which were originally produced in Mainz, now also provides deeper insights into the police challenges in Hamburg.
As the ARD media library reports, the topics of the documentary also deal with, among other things, alcohol abuse, racism, homelessness and suicide. The presentation is purely documentary and shows police operations in various contexts.
