Hair Angel in Verden: Homeless people are helped with free haircuts!
In Verden, a truly heartwarming event: The Barber Angels once again wielded their scissors and offered free haircuts to the homeless and those in need! Last Saturday, the St. Josef community center was transformed into a place of hope and new beginnings. Dilek Güvenc, a dedicated hairdresser, and her colleague Anja Singer, who acted as a “guest angel”, ensured that many people were able to go home with a fresh look.
The Barber Angels, which have been active since 2016, have made a name for themselves throughout Germany and beyond. Your goal? To give back a bit of dignity to those who need it most. "I didn't know that the Barber Angels also existed in Verden. I think that's a good idea," said Anja Singer, who was there for the first time. Demand was overwhelming: over ten people registered for the haircuts, but many more came to be pampered by the talented hairdressers. While they waited, the volunteers provided them with coffee and sausages - a small gesture that brought great joy.
A haircut with a heart
The atmosphere was full of anticipation and community spirit. Regular guest Eddie, who received his chic haircut from Anja Singer, beamed with joy. “The hair looks like that too,” he said happily. 13-year-old Leon and his mother were also enthusiastic about the support of the Barber Angels. Dilek Güvenc, who wore her signature "cowl" while getting her hair cut, explained that this outfit serves to reduce the guests' sense of shame. “Homeless people also need their dignity, and a haircut is part of that,” she emphasized.
In addition to the haircuts, there was also a selection of donated drugstore products such as shower gel and toothpaste available for guests to use. The parish of St. Josef, which provides the space, is proud to support this valuable project. “It is always a considerable effort for us, so it would be a shame if no one came,” said Barbara Walther. The Barber Angels are already planning the next campaign before Easter and hope to be able to help even more people in Verden.
