Five euros for 80,000 households: This is how the new study works!
München, Deutschland - A sensational experiment in Germany: 80,000 households will surprisingly receive five euros by post! This campaign is not a joke or fraud, but part of a large -scale study entitled "Quality of Life and Environment" (LUM). The study started on November 5, and the first letters are already on the road. The universities involved, including the Rhineland-Palatinate University of Kaiserslautern-Landau, the University of Leipzig and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, have come together to collect valuable data.
The study aims to gain insights into life and attitudes of people in Germany. Topics such as environment, living, energy consumption, nutrition, mobility and health are the focus. The researchers want to understand how people experience their everyday life and what they think about current social issues. The results should help to better understand the coexistence in Germany.
Why five euros? A clever incentive!
But why is money sent? The five euros serve as an incentive for the participants to take part in the survey. Prof. Dr. Henning Best from the RPTU explains that the reward increases motivation to participate in the survey. "Interested sacrifices their valuable time, and therefore they should be rewarded with a small amount of money as a thank you," says Best. This method is common in science and has proven to be effective to increase the response rate.
However, the campaign also has its critics. A similar initiative by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) was heavily criticized by the Federation of taxpayers because tax money was used for this. The LUM study is also financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG), which ensures that some ensures a "feeling of interference". Nevertheless, Best emphasizes that this procedure is efficient and that no research money is wasted.
The 80,000 participants were selected by a scientific random procedure and your own registration is not possible. If you don't receive a letter, you are unlucky. Best calls the selected households to participate in the survey: "Your answers are very important for scientific studies on the environment, health, transport, living and living in Germany."
