Fire department on Halloween duty: eggs, fireworks and smoke alarm!

It was no ordinary Halloween day! The volunteer fire department was called upon four times to deal with difficult situations. The first alarm came in at 12:16 p.m. - a concerned call about a helpless person in a single-family home on Am Ossenbrink Street. The fire brigade entered the building through the basement in a major operation and had to break down several doors. However, after an intensive search, the house remained empty. After 1.5 hours, the site was handed over to the police.

The second alarm came from the Friedrich-Harkort-Gymnasium at 6:41 p.m. There was a fire alarm here that was triggered by eggs being broken and a fireworks being lit. The fire department quickly determined that there was no subsequent fire, but the air was still slightly smoky. A fire brigade with 20 personnel was deployed for 30 minutes to ventilate the building - the caretaker then took over the assessment of the situation.

Smoke from an apartment building and dangerous oil slick

At 7:35 p.m. the next operation took place in Veilchenweg: residents reported smoke coming from an apartment building. The fire brigade arrived quickly, but could only detect light smoke from the chimney - no flames or further danger. 20 firefighters were on duty here for 35 minutes.

But that wasn't all! At 9:33 p.m., the police reported a dangerous oil smear that stretched over 2.5 kilometers from Wittbräucker Waldweg to Wittbräucker Straße. Eight members of the special oil slick unit were required. They scattered the trail and picked up the contaminated material with a sweeper. Warning signs were put up and after two hours this operation was also successfully completed.
