Evi and Sepp Huschle: A life for historical Christmas tree decorations!

For over thirty years, Evi and Sepp Huschle from Dornbirn have been preserving a unique heritage: their collection of over 6,000 historical Christmas tree baubles and a variety of jewelry, including glass figures, nativity scenes and pewter sculptures, spanning different eras. Their love for these special Christmas decorations led the couple to visit numerous markets in Germany, where they passionately searched for rare exhibits. “I wouldn’t have come here without my wife,” emphasizes 77-year-old Sepp. But the increasing challenges of age make it difficult for the couple to continue their passion; they have decided to no longer actively collect, how vorarlberg.orf.at reported.

The Huschles are proud of their achievements, especially since they have created their own museum in their home, which they regularly open to visitors. Their collection, which ultimately totals more than 7,000 pieces, grew from humble beginnings of a few baubles painstakingly acquired at flea markets. “We drove over 600,000 km in the car in 20 years,” says Sepp, emphasizing the friendships they made on their travels. Every year on the first weekend of Advent they warmly invite the public to admire these nostalgic treasures. The museum offers a fascinating insight into the Christmas story, with ornaments from different times, such as World War I-era jewelry and feather trees made from turkey and goose feathers, such as vol.at reported.

Farewell to the passion for collecting

Despite his desire to preserve the collection as a whole, Sepp does not consider a possible auction in the distant future. “Parting with my beloved Christmas tree decorations is currently unimaginable for me,” he says. This emotional bond is not only evident in the couple's words, but is also reflected in the way they keep the history of the Christmas tree and its traditional decorations alive in their museum. With every visit and every opening of their little jewel, Evi and Sepp want to spread the enthusiasm for the Christmas season and the importance of collecting, even if they can no longer be an active part of the community.
