Burglary in hostel: Perpetrators flee after loud alarm!

During the night, a couple in St. Valentin experienced a dramatic break-in attempt, which led to a police operation early in the morning. At 1 a.m. they were woken up by suspicious noises and, when they looked out the window, they initially saw nothing unusual. But just a short time later they heard a clanging noise coming from the reception area of their accommodation facility. Alarmed, the homeowner shouted loudly “I’m calling the police!” several times, which caused the perpetrators to flee. When police arrived, officers discovered that a window had been broken with a rock, but the burglars had failed to fully open the windows and get inside. The material damage caused is estimated at around 3,000 euros NOP reported.

The times of night rest are particularly relevant, which in Germany generally apply from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. During this time, loud noises, mainly caused by parties or constant music playing, are not permitted and may be punished as a misdemeanor. In the event of repeated disturbances, the police can be called, but it is advisable to call the local police station and not the emergency number 110. Depending on the frequency of the disruptions, fines of up to 5,000 euros can be imposed.

The two incidents in St. Valentin and the rules on disturbing the peace show the difficulties that residents can have with both external crime and internal conflicts. While the couple called the police for help to ensure their safety, another neighborhood issue could be resolved with a simple conversation before police have to intervene. Here too, communication remains the key to improving neighborhood conditions.
