Diamond wedding: Maria and Lorenz Brenner celebrate 60 years of love!

A radiant anniversary in Vaterstetten! Maria and Lorenz Brenner celebrate their diamond wedding and look back on 60 years full of love and shared memories. On November 6, 1964, the two exchanged vows in the registry office on Maria-Hilf-Platz in Munich. Maria, who came to Germany in 1957 as a Danube Swabian from the former Yugoslavia, met Lorenz at a ball in Trudering at the tender age of 17. “The next day we were at the Oktoberfest together and something sparked,” remembers Lorenz, who was 22 years old at the time.

The love between the two was not easy from the start. After they met, they began a four-year long-distance relationship in which they could only see each other every two weeks. “We didn’t have a telephone back then, so we wrote each other a lot of letters,” says Lorenz. But the effort was worth it! Maria found a job at the Bogner fashion company and moved to Trudering, where they could finally see each other every day.

A celebration of love

The wedding at St. Francis Xavier Church was a big celebration with friends and family, right where their story began. “In November you can dance well, and you can also get married well,” laughs Lorenz. The family grew quickly: their first son Gerhard was born in 1965, followed by Klaus two years later. In 1971, Lorenz began building their house in Vaterstetten, where they moved in a year later.

Today, after 60 years of marriage, the Brenners are the proud grandparents of three grandchildren. Maria cares for her garden with passion, while Lorenz takes care of his chickens and pigeons. “Fresh eggs every day, what more could you want?” enthuses the 87-year-old. Your secret to a happy marriage? “Trust is important in a relationship, you shouldn’t keep secrets,” they advise. Mayor Leonhard Spitzauer congratulated the happy couple, who wished for good health and perhaps even great-grandchildren for the next ten years. A truly inspiring couple!
