From November 23rd, bakeries in Gütersloh will be handing out bags of bread rolls with the slogan “Violence doesn’t come in the bag!” to provide information about violence against women and offers of help.

In an urgent call to combat violence against women, a remarkable campaign is starting in Gütersloh on Saturday, November 23rd! Under the motto “Violence is out of the question!” Special roll bags will be distributed to around 130 bakery branches in the district. These bags are not only an everyday companion, but also a powerful statement against the recurring cases of sexual and physical violence that often take place behind closed doors.
The sandwich bags contain important information: the nationwide helpline number and the contact details of local advice centers. This initiative, part of a nationwide week of action against violence, aims to both raise awareness of the pressing problem of violence against women and present the support options available. Angela Wüllner, the equal opportunities officer for the Gütersloh district, emphasizes: "On the one hand, we want to draw attention to the issue of violence against women. On the other hand, we want to provide information about advice options and contact points."
A strong sign of solidarity
A total of 126,000 bags were distributed, reaching almost 35 percent of the population in the Gütersloh district - an impressive reach! Andrea Buhl, equal opportunities officer for the city of Rietberg, emphasizes how important this campaign is. Violence affects people of all nationalities and age groups, with women particularly frequently affected. The bags are a sign of solidarity and hope that those affected will find the help they need.
The action goes beyond physical violence and also includes psychological abuse such as emotional pressure and manipulation.
