WaBEQ celebrates 25 years: Dedicated boss despite challenges!
Waller Heerstraße 56, 28219 Bremen, Deutschland - When the time for Birgit Füllgrabe-Frede has passed, it can look back on an impressive quarter of a century at the Waller employment and qualification company (Wabq). Her 25th anniversary at Wabq was recently celebrated at the headquarters on Waller Heerstrasse. For the 57-year-old, the fun of working is the most important criterion: "Work has to be fun, that's the most important thing. Otherwise it has no value."
her way to professional life began in 1998 when the newly baked social worker completed her recognition year in the Office for Social Services. There she was part of the team for social worker Ernst Schütte, who launched Wabq with several colleagues. The aim was to help people in need - especially unemployed - through qualification measures and training offers.
A trusting start
Füllgrabe-Frede enthusiastically tells of the beginnings: "I witnessed how a carrier was founded and how structures are built up. I thought it was great that I was trusted." On October 1, 1999, she joined the WaBEQ, a time when the "Waller Dorf", a project for long -term unemployed people and young trainees, was in which origin. "My first office was in a container at the Waller village. There it was sometimes so cold that we packed styrofoam under our feet so that we didn't have to freeze." During this pioneering period, the WaBEQ developed into a non -profit company with around 160 employees in 14 projects and measures.
she started her career as a project manager, helping young men to install water -saving devices in schools. This unconventional approach helped them to regain confidence in their skills. Füllgrabe-Frede has never regretted that they have chosen social work, although their interest in economy always existed. Her commitment was not unnoticed; After three years she wrote down in a part -time study of social management.
Challenges and changes
The way was not always easy. Fill-grave fredes have experienced growing demands and changes in the social field over the years. She is currently faced with a difficult environment, since the WaBEQ of cuts is affected under the pressure of the federal budget and the job center crisis. "We will lose AGH places, and the perspective for our contact point for homeless young people, 'Dock 11', is unclear," she explains.
Despite these challenges, Fillgrabe-Frede is optimistic for the future of the WabeQ. "We have to develop new ideas, and that also makes us. This strategy has proven itself because it gave us a lot of pillars." She continues to receive support from proven institutions and from Brussels, where praising words for the successful work of the WABEQ have been pronounced.
"I can move a lot here and implement creative projects. This motivates me to stay steadfast even in the most difficult conditions," Füllgrabe-Frede concludes. She is convinced that the WABEQ will continue to play an important role in supporting people in need.
