Ritterhuder students plant crocuses: a heart for memory!
In Ritterhude, the students of the secondary and secondary school have set an impressive sign of commemoration! With the project "Never again!" The tenth graders planted 1000 crocuses, which will bloom the outlines on the school grounds on the Moorannskamp in the coming spring. This campaign is intended to commemorate the countless children and adolescents who have lost their lives during the Holocaust. A strong symbol that the students gave in the form of a heart to clearly convey their message: memory begins in the neighborhood!
The inspiration for this moving project comes from an initiative in Ireland that was founded in 2005. There, yellow crocuses were distributed to commemorate the 1.5 million Jewish children who did not survive the Shoah. The color of the crocuses symbolically stands for the yellow Jewish star, which sealed the fate of the Jews. In the meantime, over 200,000 young people in Ireland and eleven other European countries take part in this important campaign. The knight's pupils, in particular the committed class 10R1, put the onions into the ground with a lot of zeal and support from experts from the garden and landscaping company Grewe and carefully cut out the outlines of the hearts.
A strong sign for peace
The students not only want to create a silent memory with their action, but also to initiate a public discussion about National Socialist history. Mayor Jürgen Kuck praised the student's commitment and emphasized the importance of strengthening democracy and tolerance. On Friday, November 8th, the students will also paint peace crocuses and exhibit in the town hall. Visitors are invited to take such a work of art with you to set a sign of peaceful coexistence. An impressive example of the power of the youth that is committed to a better future!
