Gröpelingen becomes the air conditioning model: sewing cafés, women cafes and more!

Liegnitzstraße 26, 28237 Bremen, Deutschland - In Bremen, an exciting project for promoting climate protection and sustainability is running. In the Gröpelingen district, the city has started to convert an existing quarter into a so-called climate protection model district. This initiative, which receives funding as part of an integrated development concept (IEK) by the end of 2027, is supported by the Bremen Heimstiftung and the BUND (BUND for the Environment and Nature Conservation). The central element of the project is the newly furnished climate quarters.

In June of this year, the Bremen climate protection agency Energie consensus opened the central contact point for climate and sustainability issues in a former mosaic meeting on Liegnitzstrasse. Here Göpelingen citizens are cordially invited to find out about various topics related to climate protection. The offer includes numerous activities that not only convey knowledge, but also offer space for creative exchange.

Special offer for households

A special initiative that runs by the end of the year is free on-site advice for all households in Gröpelingen. The so -called climate protection guides visit citizens in their apartments and show where the largest energy consumers are hidden in the household. Your goal is to give the residents practical tips on how to save electricity, reduce heating costs and avoid garbage. You will also install energy-saving aids such as LED lamps or shower savings heads free of charge.

Educational offers surrounding climate protection

Regular lectures and workshops should further strengthen awareness of climate issues. Participants from the environment and sustainable urban development are invited to discuss with the citizens. On November 9, for example, a specialist will present a study on climate adjustment in Gröpelingen and explain to the residents which measures they can take to better prepare for the challenges of climate change. Participation in these events is free of charge, but is requested for prior registration.

In addition, the Klima district offers special offers such as the sewing café, which takes place every second Monday of the month. Here visitors can repair old clothes or create new articles. Another highlight is the women's café, which takes place on the first Monday of the month. At these meetings, the focus is on the exchange of climate protection and sustainable practices, often supplemented by creative craft actions.

The Klimaquartier team has also organized numerous actions to promote environmental awareness. Particularly noteworthy is a successful campaign during the holiday program, in which participants collected garbage and converted it into an upcycling project. The collected plastic was shredded and processed into new products, which not only protects resources, but also shows creative solutions.

The Network Climate Protection, which meets every three months in the Klima district, is currently preparing different actions for the European week of avoidance. The goal of the event, which takes place from November 16 to 24, is to draw attention to the topic of avoiding waste and to present sustainable ideas. Alke Rockmann, who heads the project, sees the opportunity to make the existing approaches of the numerous local facilities visible and to offer a platform for exchange.

In summary, it can be said that Gröpelingen with his climate protection model district not only takes a significant step towards more sustainable urban development, but also actively involves the citizens into the process. Through various programs and initiatives, the residents learn how to make their everyday life more environmentally friendly while they at the same time establish new social contacts.
