Twice is better: These German cities share the same name!

From the coast to the Alps – Germany has several cities that share the same name! The town of Neustadt exists an incredible 19 times, but famous cities such as Koblenz, Bremen and Weimar also have their twin siblings. Anyone who thinks they are visiting a unique destination might be surprised to find the same name twice!

In Thuringia lies Weimar, which is steeped in history and was once influenced by the great poets Goethe and Schiller. With its 65,000 inhabitants, it is a cultural center and the cradle of Bauhaus architecture. In contrast to this is Weimar in Hesse, which has only 7,000 inhabitants and a tranquil environment - here you can enjoy nature and the local quarry pond instead of museums and monuments.

Another example is Koblenz: While Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate impresses with the famous Deutsches Eck and the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, Koblenz in Saxony is struggling with tourism problems. A landslide has closed the local quarry lake and guests are staying away - the renovation is taking years!

And the Hanseatic city of Bremen? There is not only the big city on the Weser, but also a small, unknown counterpart in Thuringia with only 300 inhabitants. This community was part of the restricted area during the Cold War - a fascinating piece of history that is often forgotten!

The two mountains in Germany couldn't be more different: Bergen on Rügen attracts with the Baltic Sea and chalk cliffs, while Bergen in Chiemgau delights with breathtaking views of the Alps. And Halle also has a twin brother - Halle an der Saale is known for its cultural highlights, while Halle in North Rhine-Westphalia scores with its historic city center. These fascinating namesakes show that Germany is rich in diversity not only geographically but also culturally!
