Erfurt, Deutschland - Last weekend, the SOVD local association Nienhagen, with 41 travel enthusiasts, undertook a fascinating two-day trip under the motto "Romantic Thuringia in Advent". The participants first visited the atmospheric Christmas market in Erfurt , which extends over the historical old town. Despite the cold but dry weather, the travelers enjoyed the impressive attractions, including an approximately 25 meter high Christmas tree and an original Erzgebirge Christmas pyramid. A special highlight was the city tour with the historic Tatra-Straßenbahn from 1980, which showed the participants a nostalgic experience and showed Erfurt from a unique perspective. At the time of dusk, the travelers were able to experience the festive atmosphere at the Christmas market and in the Beautiful Illuminated Ega Park.

Weimar advent history experience up close

The second day led the group to the cultural city of Weimar, famous place of German literature. On a guided walk through the festively decorated city center, the participants were familiarized with the rich history of the Weimar Advent. From the first stanza of the Christmas carol "Oh du Fröhliche", which was written here, to numerous lovingly designed stands that Thuringia offered delicacies and handicrafts, the Weimar Christmas impressed the travelers. The well thought -out design of the Christmas market on the market square and at Goethe on the women's plan made the excursion unforgettable. The extensive selection of offers, including the ice rink and the historic Christmas market on the Herder Platz, ensured an atmospheric ambience.

In addition, the Weimar Christmas market awaits a variety of attractions this year until January 5, 2025, including Christmas stands with craftsmanship products, inspiring musical performances and festively decorated Christmas cribs. Families will find a magical program with fairy tale huts and a candle workshop. Visitors can look forward to an atmospheric and contemplative Advent season that has all this and even more to offer.
