A Beatle in Verden: Memories of John Lennon's film shoot in 1966

In Verden, the memory of the legendary John Lennon comes to life! A new book, "A Beatle in Verden", celebrates the filming of Lennon's anti-war film "How I Won the War" from 1966 with impressive documents and contemporary witness reports. The presentation in the town hall brought together many Beatles fans and older extras who had helped create parts of the film in the old town. As the District newspaper reported, the event took place with the Bremen cult band “The Bobbies”, who enhanced the atmosphere of the 60s with their live performances.

Memories and encounters

The book was launched by Gerd Coordes, a former police officer, and documents the memories of numerous contemporary witnesses. There were also contemporary witnesses present at the event who experienced Lennon's visit up close. Mayor Lutz Brockmann valued the memories: "John Lennon embodied the hope for a better world back then. I am very happy about this book," as von Weser courier quoted. One of the nostalgic experiences was the description of Ellen Benschuss, who escaped with a child in a film scene while she remembered the filming almost 60 years ago.

“A Beatle in Verden” is a richly illustrated book that combines numerous anecdotes, photos and reports on the making of the film and Richard's memories. Local pride in Lenon's creative influence is kept alive through the book and is available from the tourist information office for just 20 euros.
