New plans for Templin: Famila market is to be built in the city center!
In Templin, a new blueprint provides excitement and discussions: The Bartels Longness group group has acquired the property in Lychener Strasse, which is currently accommodating a Baywa Baumarkt and a Norma market. The planned project provides for the construction of a Famila food market, and the news brings with it various reactions from the city.
Mayor Detlef Tabbert (BSW) said that the city administration was confronted with the plans of the new owner about four weeks ago. He announced that there is already a positive preliminary decision for the construction of a full range by the Uckermark district. The city council had already given a similar approval last year to possibly establish a Rewe market there. However, this idea was connected with concerns regarding the city center.
Consider retailers
The project not only awakens enthusiasm. "We see the future competition critically," emphasized Tabbert. The mayor assured that the city would do everything possible to protect retail and to support the competitive conditions for local business. "A functioning shopping world in Templin is of crucial importance for us," he added.
Christine Splinter, owner of the Splinter fashion house, expressed her concerns about the possible competition by a large grocery supplier. In their opinion, many supermarkets already offer textiles, and an additional provider could endanger the inner city business. "The variety of business is what makes our spa town flair," she emphasized. These concerns reflect the concerns of many retailers who fear their existence.
Future Planning and Dialog
Mayor Tabbert announced that one would talk to the investor about future offers on the premises. Particular attention should be paid to the fact that the range of non-food articles remains limited, while food should be in the foreground. "We clearly said that the main strategy should be on food supply," said Tabbert.
On November 4, the Bartels-Langness group of companies will present its plans during a meeting in the urban development committee. The mayor invited the retailers to take part in this session. This opportunity could become important to protect the interests of the city and its traders in a changing trade landscape.
The developments related to the construction plans in Templin are therefore extensive and affect many actors in the city. Local retailers face a challenge to assert themselves in a changing market, while the city administration is trying to balance both retail and new retail concepts.
