Wolves threaten pets: hunting association warns of dangerous attacks

In Brandenburg it is bubbling: The State Hunting Association raises the alarm! Wolves show questionable behavior and represent a growing threat to pets. Especially free -range cats are in danger! A terrifying incident in Lausitz, where a wolf has torn a cat, further fueled the worries of the pet owners. The hunting association urgently calls for measures to reduce the wolf stock.

In the district of Teltow-Fläming, a hunting dog was killed, and a wolf in Barnim's behavioral wolf caused excitement when he came dangerously close to a man and his dog. The State Office for the Environment has the Situation in mind and increases the observation, but according to the authority, direct encounters between humans and wolf rarely remain. Nevertheless, the fear grows that the wolves could lose their shyness from people, which also tenses up for the situation for pet owners.

wolves and pets: a dangerous combination

The warnings are unmistakable: the state hunting association sees an acute danger to pets. The genetic studies after the attack on the hunting dog have not yet been completed and the uncertainty remains. A spokesman for the association, Kai Hamann, emphasizes that wolves are increasingly switching to pets because the wild stocks go back. In a shocking event, a wolf was seen in Döbern with a domestic cat in the mouth, which the neighborhood frightened.

Despite these alarming reports, the State Office for the Environment makes it clear that attacks on non-usable animals and cats are still rare. In the statistics for 2023, only nine torn animals were recorded in the "other" category, which can also include cats. The pressure on the wolves increases and the demand for regulation is getting louder. The debate about the wolf population in Brandenburg could set the course for the future - it remains to be seen how the authorities react!
