Brandenburg an der Havel.A dramatic blow to the illegal cigarette industry: Early on Wednesday morning, the police in two federal states took intensive action! In a large-scale operation, 17 people were temporarily arrested while ten properties were searched - all in the course of gang tax evasion. The wave of attacks was organized by the Essen Customs Investigation Office.
The investigators, commissioned by the Wuppertal public prosecutor's office, searched nine locations in North Rhine-Westphalia and one in Brandenburg an der Havel. They received support from special forces from the Federal Police and the Customs Criminal Investigation Office. The missions also included the main customs offices in Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Dortmund, Krefeld, Cologne, Potsdam and the Berlin-Brandenburg customs investigation office!
The head of the operation: A Moldovan?
At the center of this shocking story is a 38-year-old man from the former Soviet Republic of Moldova. He is suspected of running an illegal cigarette factory in Radevormwald, east of Wuppertal. According to his machinations, the products were to be sold on the German and European black markets! The case not only exposes the unscrupulous businesses, but also shows the heavy hand of the authorities in the fight against tax evasion and illicit trafficking.
