Bridge in Brandenburg an der Havel: Condition 4.0 - act immediately!
Bridge in Brandenburg an der Havel: Condition 4.0 - act immediately!
In Brandenburg an der Havel, the city faces a serious infrastructure problem, which revealed through the results of a current main bridge test. It was found that the plane bridge between Wilhelmsdorfer Landstrasse and Ziesarer Landstrasse received a catastrophic state grade of 4.0. This assessment is alarming because it is the worst nota bene for bridges and indicates serious defects in stability. The Federal Institute for Roads (BAST) defines such a state as insufficient and warns of considerable risks for traffic safety.
Local authorities are now under pressure to immediately initiate construction work in order to ensure the safety of the building. According to information, the bridge auditor is said to have made concrete suggestions for stabilization that were surprised in the town hall. In view of this situation, measures urgently need to be initiated to prevent further slipping into the danger zone.
Action is required
The city of Brandenburg is responsible for the construction load and has to decide which renovation measures are taken. The first concrete measures are on the agenda, including a possible weight restriction of twelve tons for the plane bridge to avoid damage caused by overload. Heavy vehicles should then no longer happen, with exceptions to urgent operations from fire brigade and public transport being considered.
The city has only limited access options for heavy traffic. Various alternative routes are also influenced by existing weight restrictions, which also complicates the situation. Another bridge, the Quenzbrücke, has already been blocked for heavy goods traffic and declared no longer functional by the transport companies.
In a further step, immediate structural measures were required, which could cost around 500,000 euros. This investment is intended to ensure that the plane bridge will remain functional up to a planned new building that is expected to take place in 2026. However, the maintenance work is complex and it is unclear whether they must first be approved by an elaborate planning approval process.
The planning is done in the present, whereby recommendations already exist. In this way, it is discussed whether additional sheet pile walls are installed to protect the bridge and long -term reinforcements are planned. These measures should be advertised as soon as possible so as not to burden the city financially and not to have to wait for future budget permits.
At the same time there was indications of a possible furnishing transaction over the bridge, which could be realized by a construction site traffic light or diversion. However, these considerations should only be implemented after a precise review by the traffic authority.
In addition to the plan bridge, there are other bridges in the city on the bridge. The WREDOW Bridge, which is already part of a diversion, has also received a questionable state grade of 4.0. The city administration is alarmed and under pressure, since the infrastructure increases increasingly damage. A clear and consistent approach is required to avoid future bridge collapse. Spokesman for the citizens' groups express the hope that promptly and comprehensive information will come from the town hall to prevent a potential disaster.
The situation in Brandenburg an der Havel illustrates the urgent problem of maintaining urban infrastructure. In view of the current challenges and the necessary financial expenses, it remains to be seen whether the city is able to take the necessary measures in good time before serious security incidents occur. It remains to be seen on the topics and developments what the coming months will bring, especially in the light of the impending bridge collapse.
