First regional plan for Uckermark-Barnim: focus on wind power and the environment!

The Uckermark-Barnim region is opening a new chapter in the use of wind energy! The revolutionary integrated regional plan came into force on October 23rd, following a resolution by the regional assembly on May 21st, 2024. Thanks to this regulation, the region is not only acting as a pioneer for Brandenburg, but even nationwide by immediately implementing the new requirements for the use of wind energy. Claudia Henze, the person responsible for planning, cheers: “We are the first in Germany to be able to present a valid plan!”

Wind priority areas and goals achieved!

With targeted determinations, the regional plan assumes responsibility for at least 1.8 percent of the area designation by the end of 2027 and even 2.2 percent by the end of 2032. In the specially designated wind priority areas, which cover a total of 10,098 hectares, wind turbines are protected under building law. These new regulations make it possible to reject applications outside these zones more effectively - a real win for environmental protection and the local population!

Diversity for the Uckermark

But that's not all! The plan also includes measures for raw material extraction and presents locations for future hydrogen production in the region. Even tourism resources are not neglected; Areas with water activities and natural zones are given priority. Therefore, emphasis is also placed on protecting natural open spaces, which are crucial for the environment and society. The course has been set for sustainable development, which strengthens the Uckermark not only as an energy location, but as a home worth living in!
