Bomb at the hairdressing salon: Cologne businessman fights for normality!

On the shocking night of Wednesday there was a spectacular ATM explosion right in front of the “Weltfriseur” in Cologne-Mülheim! At 2:30 a.m., residents heard a deafening bang and saw smoke rising. Unknown people had dared to blow up the ATM right on Frankfurter Strasse! The incidents left chaos behind - the window front of the hairdressing salon shattered and the door of an adjacent kiosk was literally ripped out.

A picture of horror was presented to the hairdresser's representative Rebaz Abbas, who stood in front of the shattered remains of his business after the call shortly after three. “The whole street was cordoned off, blue lights everywhere,” he remembers. Although the explosion had nothing to do with the recent dramatic incidents between rival drug gangs in Cologne, the shock is deep and makes a peaceful night's sleep impossible. Around 15,000 euros in damage to the business – a real nightmare!

Police on the hunt for perpetrators

The perpetrators in question fled in a black station wagon, and now the police are racing to find the criminals who appear to have escaped with nothing. Abbas is pleased that his salon reopened quickly and that insurance is covering the damage. But conviviality has so far been in short supply: “So many things had to be reorganized, everything is just crazy,” says Abbas.

North Rhine-Westphalia has taken strict measures against ATM explosions in recent years. Soko BEGAS reports a decline in explosive acts, from 182 in 2022 to 153 in 2023. But the lure of obtaining large sums of money is still tempting, and many ATMs are well secured, but well secured does not mean impossible.
