Large renovation: swimming pool in Spandau closes in 2025 for bathers!

The sports club Siemensstadt is planning a comprehensive renovation of its swimming pool in Berlin-Spandau for the coming year, which has hardly been modernized since 1984. This could not only affect new swimming courses, but also the leisure activities of the visitors. The measure is to be realized in 2025, although the exact time is still unclear.

The current tenders include significant renovation work on the swimming pool, the technical systems as well as an energetic renovation of the roof and the facade. It is striking that the basic structure of the swimming pool is not changed, which means that the general possible uses should be largely preserved.

effects on the users

There are already restrictions: the children's pool is blocked due to a defect, and baby swimming courses have not been offered since 2023. With the upcoming renovation work, however, the other bathers must also prepare to find alternative swimming sites. Enrico Giese, team leader Marketing of SC Siemensstadt, announced that the association is looking for alternative opportunities for courses and department swimming and supporting support from the State Sports Association.

The upcoming renovation work has been the first comprehensive measures for decades. Giese emphasizes that this renovation should not remain - further adjustments are being planned. A current evaluation questions how the sports facility should be designed in the future. The question arises as to which sports opportunities in the area are necessary, especially in view of the increasing population by new residential areas.

adaptation to the move

The SC Siemensstadt also reacts to the changes in the area. The development of new residential complexes, especially in the "New Garden Field" project with 3700 new apartments and in the "Siemensstadt-Square" with 2750 apartments, will probably increase the demand for sports and leisure opportunities. The sporting offers must be more flexible and versatile in order to meet the needs of the new residents.

The upcoming changes in the sports center are therefore not only to be understood as a necessary step towards modernization, but also in response to a dynamic urban development. While the swimming pool closes in the coming months, it remains to be seen how the SC Siemensstadt offer will develop in the next few years in order to meet the growing population. In view of the challenges, the association will continue to work on solutions in the next few years in order to maintain and improve the quality of the sporting infrastructure.
