Students discover diversity of faith: A day in mosque and church!
On November 28, 2024, the eighth graders from the Bad Waldsee high school visited the Mevlana Mosque in Ravensburg. Accompanied by the religion teachers Birgit Bader-Sickinger, Christine Schramm, Nathalie Nold and Sophia Aich, the students were not only able to take part in the Muslim lunchtime prayer, but also immerse themselves in conversations and ask questions. This encounter gave the young people exciting insights into Muslim culture, from the shock of Arabic chants to the ritual of taking off shoes when entering the prayer room. In the second part of the excursion, the young people were welcomed to the Catholic youth church of St. Jodok and dealt with modern elements of the church interior and youth pastoral care, such as Schwäbische.de reports.
Bonds between religions emphasized
At the same time, the bond between Muslims and Christians is being highlighted in Berlin. In a joint greeting, the Protestant Bishop Christian Stäblein and the Catholic Archbishop Heiner Koch acknowledged the sadness and pain of the people affected by the conflict in the Middle East. Especially after the devastating attacks in October 2023, many Berliners are connected to the region, be it through lost family members or concerns for their safety. “We pay attention to the pain and grief of people,” said the bishops in their address. They emphasize that the longing for peace unites both Muslims and Christians. As Ramadan approaches, which begins on March 10 this year, they express hope for a deeper connection through shared fasting and prayer times, such as Evangelische-Zeitung.de reports.
