Rewe market in Prenzlau concludes: What customers need to know now!
The Rewe market in Prenzlauer Steinstrasse will close its doors in early to mid-May and are expected to remain closed for renovation work by the end of September. This closure was initiated by a rumor that has spread in the city. The market is very popular with residents, especially because of its good accessibility.
The reasons for the closure are in the last construction phase of Steinstraße, which ranges from the Marktberg crossing (B109) to the neighboring parking lot. During the construction work, trucks will not be possible to start the shop ramp, which is why a temporary closure is necessary. Extensive modernization measures are planned in a sales area of around 1000 square meters.
renovation work and affected employees
In the renovation, which has been the first modernization for 12 years, the cooling systems, the machine room and the shelves are exchanged. The renovation measures are dissolved by the “Märkisch Edel” backshop, and Rewe plans to offer its own baking range and snacks in the entrance area in the future. The closure affects 25 employees who can report unemployed and receive a promise to re -establish. Three employees save for a sabbatical, while two are used in other markets.
The changeover also means that 15,000 to 20,000 products have to be transferred to other markets before closing. The closure is a challenge for the elderly customers who live in the area. After the renovation, a traffic island is being built in front of the Rewe market to facilitate road crossing. Market manager Becker expresses hope that the schedule for road expansion and the conversion of the market can be observed.
On another side, a conversion of the Rewe market in Cremlingen is postponed to 2024. A demolition of the old market as well as the beverage market and retail market at Hauptstraße 42 will take place at this location. The project, which is scheduled to start in the summer of 2023, aims to ensure the long-term care of the population and follow the Green Building concept with sustainable energy generation. The sales area of the new market is intended to include around 1,870 square meters and offer a wide range of fresh and regional products, such as cremlingen-online.de
