Austria's lonely: Almost every fifth lives alone!
Austria's lonely: Almost every fifth lives alone!
The people living alone in Austria continue to increase! According to current data, 1.6 million people now live, which is 17.8 percent of the population, in one household alone. Compared to 20 years ago, this percentage has increased significantly than it was 14.6 percent. It is particularly striking that the largest group of people living alone are over 64 years, with more than two thirds of them being women. This was reported by the Kleine Zeitung .
The image of the partnerships is also interesting. In 2024, 4.4 million people, i.e. 49 percent of the population, lived in a partnership. The statistics show that marriage has slightly lost in importance compared to communities. The proportion of people who live in a marriage fell from 41.8 percent in 2004 to 39.1 percent in 2024. In the age groups between 35 and 54 years, more than 70 percent of residents are in partnerships - in other age groups, on the other hand, this value is only around 50 percent.
population forecasts by 2050
In addition to these remarkable changes, a comprehensive analysis of the population forecasts was also created. The population in Austria will continue to be increased by mid -2024, with a focus on the proportions of younger and older population groups. Estimates are based on official statistics that take many factors into account such as migration and birth rates. These forecasts are crucial for future political and social plans, such as the dsw reported. The data also show that the composition of the population is subject to constant review in relation to the age structure, since many demographic factors, such as the way of life and the number of children per household, have a direct influence on social development. Above all, the support of older people will become the challenge of the state in the coming years.
