The number of members of the Hessian regional associations of German parties developed differently in 2024, with the SPD remaining the party with the largest number of members in Hesse with 40,736 members, according to a survey by the German Press Agency (dpa) in Wiesbaden. This represents a decrease from 41,889 members at the beginning of the year. The CDU Hesse had a total of 32,953 members on November 30, 2024, which corresponds to an increase of 120 members compared to the beginning of the year.
A remarkable increase in members can be observed among the Hesse Greens, who have gained over 1,000 new members since the end of the traffic light government in Berlin. Developments in the AfD and the Left
The AfD Hesse is now the fifth largest state association of the federal party, with 3,542 members.
