Gropius Quartet inspires with a debut album about love!
The Gropius Quartet, founded in 2018 in Weimar and Berlin, celebrates an important milestone in his musical career with his debut album "Mendelssohn-Albrecht-Dvořák". After numerous appearances in renowned concert halls, including the Elbphilharmonie and the Berlin Philharmonic, the quartet now presents a collection of works that deal with love thematically. This publication is not only a musical, but also an emotional project of the musicians: inside that bring their deep connections to each other on stage.
cellist Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt explains the special constellation of the quartet: "We are two couples who have been friends for many years." This long -term connection gives the common music a distinctive intensity. The chemistry between the members created the prerequisite for strong artistic cooperation from the start.
The musical journey
The name of the quartet, Gropius, reflects the artistic root of its origin, since both Weimar and Berlin are connected to the heir by Walter Gropius, the Bauhaus founder. Schmidt explains that the name embodies the ideas of bold, structure and passion that can also be experienced in the music of the quartet.
The motto of her first performance and the album revolves around the diverse facets of love. The work of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy opens the door to a moving musical experience with his deep emotional bond with sister Fanny, after death he composed a requiem for four strings. Schmidt emphasizes the intensity of the pieces: "The third sentence reflects a declaration of love that makes the pain and passion tangible."
George Alexander Albrecht's composition "from fear and grief redeemed by love", which is considered a foundation of the quartet, adds another layer. This music combines romantic sounds with avant -garde elements, which reinforces the expressiveness of the quartet. Schmidt remembers the rehearsals that they had together with Albrecht in a family atmosphere, which also shaped their performance.
Antonín Dvořák's "American Quartet" brings cheerful elements and a carefree nature love into the collection. Created in a summer in Iowa, this work conveys a feeling of happiness and the family reunion, which comes into its own particularly well in the happy melodies. Schmidt describes the bubbling vitality of the composition and the complexity of the musical performance.
Overall, the Gropius Quartet presents a harmonious connection of feelings on its debut album that are brought to life through their increased musical cooperation. The publication is not the shooting of a chapter, but the beginning of an exciting journey that will enrich the music world.
