Eagles fight bravely, but defeat against Berlin Braves remains!
A gripping basketball game that made the hearts of fans beat faster! The Itzehoe Eagles fought passionately, but in the end they had to give up the Berlin Braves 2000 with 83:89. The encounter in the Barmer 2nd Basketball Bundesliga was characterized by strong scenes and a rousing atmosphere, which was, however, clouded by the disappointing result.
The Eagles started the game furiously and quickly led 11: 3. But the dream start soon turned into a nightmare when the Braves took control and pulled away to 22:13 with an impressive hit rate. But the Itzehoers showed character and fought back until Tobias Möller achieved the equalization to 24:24. In the second half, the pressure of the Berliners remained constant, and despite all the efforts of the Eagles, the gap grew to 32:43. But Alan Kikwaki and his team did not give up and shortened to 39:45.
A dramatic comeback
After the break, the Braves continued their strong performance and pulled away to 15 points again. Captain Erik Nyberg, however, kept the Eagles in the game and, with an impressive neighborhood, ensured that the gap shrank to 63:70. In the last few minutes the Eagles fought tirelessly, even had the chance to turn the game, but time ran away. Despite the "disappointing defeat", as Coach Timo Völkerink put it, he praised his team's committed performance, which fought for 40 minutes. "We made far too many slight mistakes," said Völkerink, who regretted the absence of Tim Schlegel and Raphael Ejimofor, who could have given the team additional pressure.
The best scorers of the Eagles were Erik Nyberg with 24 points, followed by Alan Kikwaki with 23 points and Adam Paige with 14 points. Despite the defeat, the support of the audience was unbroken, and the Eagles can be proud of their fighting spirit.
