Caution black ice: dozens of accidents throughout Germany!

The Reutlingen police headquarters recorded a total of 25 weather -related accidents until the morning of January 5, 2025. In Freiburg, around 20 other accidents were reported, which were caused by black ice. Mostly these were sheet metal damage, but there were also occasional minor injuries. A driver in Oberried, in the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, had to be towed on a snow-covered road with summer tires. On the A8 motorway near Karlsruhe, a small van collided with a snow plow, with the passenger suffering minor injuries. There was also a collision between a car and a patrol car in Mannheim.

The smooth roads not only led to problems in the southwest. Around 80 smoothly accidents occurred in Bremen within a few hours. In Lower Saxony, the Braunschweig police reported over 110 traffic accidents within just eight hours. In Thuringia there were also 17 accidents on Friday evening and the night in which two people were injured. A serious accident occurred in Hesse, where two trucks collided in Trubenhausen, with both drivers injured, one of them difficult. The estimated total loss of the truck amounts to around 300,000 euros.
Further incidents include a black ice accident in Sittensen in Lower Saxony, in which several people were injured and hundreds of trout died after a fish transporter came off the street. In Bavaria, a car crashed into a house wall, with all four occupants being injured. A driver in Selb also slipped in front of a level crossing and grazed a train. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
The German Weather Service had previously warned of black ice by freezing rain in large parts of the country and called for caution. The risk of black ice remains under the current weather conditions, as the forecasts for the coming nights show.
