Traffic chaos in Vienna: Block handling causes heated debates!
Vienna is facing a traffic jam crisis that is straining commuters' nerves! The city government's intended three-party coalition has promised to relieve traffic, but the concept of possible block processing at the Walserberg border crossing is opening up new controversies. As ORF Salzburg reports, this could lead to massive backlogs in Bavaria, which raises legal questions: Is such a regulation even compatible with EU law?
The transit roads in Salzburg are overloaded and the new government program includes measures to address this challenge. Traffic officer Stefan Schnöll (ÖVP) believes in a successful dialogue with the authorities in order to establish a regulatory system that affects not only Austrian traffic, but also the travel of German vacationers. The plan is not to worsen the traffic jams, but rather to slow down the speed and thereby enable traffic to flow more smoothly. “We don’t want to cause traffic jams, we just want to slow down the pace,” says Schnöll, who is optimistic about the legal hurdles. This supports the goal of improving the traffic situation.
Despite the commitment and good intentions, the situation in Bavaria and beyond could face significant resistance, requiring an agreement with ASFINAG and the future transport minister. The negotiations mentioned by Schnöll are therefore of crucial importance in order to minimize the chaos during peak travel times and to create a legally secure framework. According to current reports, the topic is still being intensively discussed.
