Warning strikes at BMW: Regensburg becomes a strike hotspot!

On Tuesday, in a dramatic step within the metal collective bargaining round, the Upper Palatinate BMW factories will be paralyzed with an unmistakable strike! The night shift at the BMW plant in Regensburg begins at midnight with a work stoppage, influenced by IG Metall. “We are starting the warning strike phase at maximum speed,” emphasizes Rico Irmischer, the chief representative of IG Metall Regensburg. Over 1,000 workers from BMW and logistics service provider Rhenus are expected to make the impressive protest heard as production comes to a complete standstill overnight. Production will start again at 1:30 a.m., but the pressure on the negotiators will be noticeable!

Additional strikes in Wackersdorf and beyond

But that's not all! The BMW factory in Wackersdorf will also be hit by a strike on Tuesday. Around 500 employees from BMW and the logistics service provider Schnellecke will stop work here in the morning, which will result in a production stop of around 1.5 hours. And to accompany the protest, the Macedonians will also take part in the warning strike at the Benteler automotive supplier plant in Schwandorf in the early afternoon.

“The trainees are also there,” announces Olga Redda, the second representative of IG Metall. Five buses full of trainees make their way to Ingolstadt to create pressure as part of their own warning strike. “We are planning to include other Regensburg companies in the warning strike in order to persuade employers to quickly reach a collective agreement,” explains Redda. In this hot phase of negotiations, IG Metall is demanding a whopping seven percent more salary for its members and an increase in remuneration for trainees by 170 euros!

Employers are under pressure. The vbm association has presented an offer that many consider to be inadequate. “The employer offer clearly lacks volume!” says Irmischer. The waves of arguments between employers and unions are boiling over as the masses unite to make their voices heard. “With these warning strikes we will soon feel the consequences,” said Irmischer. The situation remains tense and developments are being followed with great excitement!
