U21 wants to clarify EM ticket against Bulgaria-fan support in demand!
The German U21 national team is facing a crucial moment in the European Championship qualification. With Paul Wanner, an 18-year-old newcomer from FC Heidenheim, and Maximilian Beier, who should have tailwind for the A national team after his nomination, are new forces in the squad. On Friday evening (6:00 p.m.) the team in Regensburg will meet Bulgaria to finally secure the ticket for the 2025 European Championship in Slovakia.
In addition to the fresh blood Wanner and Beier, there are other returnees available. Goalkeeper Noah Atubolu from SC Freiburg as well as the defenders Leandro Morgalla and Tom Rothe and the midfielder Brajan Gruda and Umut Tohumcu are fit again. These returnees could ensure the necessary flexibility and depth in the team.
The challenge of the group phase
coach Antonio di Salvo was optimistic: "We look forward to these two decisive games and want to solve the ticket to the EM 2025 in Slovakia with the support of our many fans in the home game in Regensburg." The games against Bulgaria and Poland will be crucial, especially since Poland is currently in second place with 18 points.
The DFB selection currently leads the table of the EM qualification group D with 22 points. The best starting point for a qualification is ideal because the nine group winners and the best three second -placed people qualify for the final round. The other group runners must compete in playoffs to secure the last places.
A reason for concern is the absence of important players. Karim Adeyemi, Merlin Röhl, Linus Gechter, Colin Kleine-Klekel and Jamil Siebert are not available due to injuries. The focus is particularly on Youssoufa Moukoko, who plays on OGC Nice. Di Salvo emphasized: "With Youssoufa I am in a trusting exchange, and he is and remains an important player for us. Absolute priority at the moment has its development into a regular in Nice."
Wanner, who was born in Austria, has already had a strong connection to the German young teams, but has not yet decided which A-national team he would like to play for in the future. His excellent performance in the 2-1 win of the 1. FC Heidenheim in the Conference League shows his potential and willingness to prove itself in important games.
The upcoming encounters are an important opportunity for both the players and the coaches to show themselves on an international floor and set the course for the European Championship in Slovakia. The tension is great and the support of the fans could ultimately make up the difference.
