Weichering reinvents waste management: State-of-the-art recycling center opens!
Good news for the community of Weichering: The Free State of Bavaria is now covering a fantastic 90 percent of the costs for the urgently needed fiber optic expansion Danube Courier reported. In total, the investments amount to around 3.25 million euros, of which 2.92 million euros are funded thanks to the Bavarian Gigabit process (ByGibitR). The municipality only has to cover 325,000 euros itself. This initiative will provide 921 households with high-speed internet, representing a significant improvement in digital infrastructure.
In addition, a state-of-the-art recycling center was inaugurated in Weichering, which is considered a groundbreaking project for the Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district. District Administrator Peter von der Grün (FDP) cut the ribbon at the new location, which is strategically positioned on the B16 and is only 150 meters from the old recycling center. Augsburger Allgemeine reported that the recycling center was built within nine months and cost around one million euros, with no increase in waste fees. The construction manager had to deal with challenges such as heavy rain and increased groundwater levels, but overall the project went very well.
New recycling center with special features
The new recycling center offers innovative features, including a ground-level green waste station and a covered e-waste drop-off station that includes unique containers for refrigerators and other electronics. Mayor Thomas Mack described the recycling center as a “meeting point and contact point” for citizens. A special highlight that the people of Weichering are looking forward to is a planned exchange shelf for reusable items, which will be modeled on an existing shelf in Neuburg. With these innovations, Weichering is setting new standards for waste management and at the same time strengthening the community among citizens.
