Hero of FC Pipinsried: Stem cell donor calls for typing!
In August, 23-year-old Tim Greifenegger, a player for the Bayern league soccer team FC Pipinsried, took a remarkable step: he became a stem cell donor. Despite the many layers of praise he received, Greifenegger sees this as a completely normal act of humanity. “It's natural to help someone if you can help,” he explains modestly.
His donation helped a young blood cancer patient from Germany. More specifically, he knows that the recipient of the stem cells is under 30 years old, but further details remain hidden from him, which he considers to be correct. The defensive actor's clear goal: to encourage as many people as possible to imitate his actions in order to register with the German Bone Marrow Donor Registry (DKMS).
Official typing campaign at FC Pipinsried
In order to put his wish into practice, Greifenegger is planning a typing campaign in collaboration with the DKMS. This will take place next Saturday, October 12th, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the FC Pipinsried tennis hall. Registration is free for anyone interested. At the same time, the DKMS is hoping for donations, as each examination costs around 50 euros.
FCP President Benny Rauch explained that the club wanted to act quickly after Greifenegger was identified as a potential donor. “At first we thought about a blood donation appointment, but then decided on typing,” says Rauch. In order to mobilize many spectators for the good cause, a home game between FC Pipinsried and SV Erlbach will be played on Saturday at 4 p.m. Everyone who takes part in the typing will receive a free drink in the stadium as a small thank you.
Further information about registration and the typing campaign is available on the DKMS website. It remains to be seen how many will be inspired by Greifenegger's commitment and are willing to send a sign of solidarity. A contribution that could change the lives of many often begins with a small step like registering as a stem cell donor.
