Weilheim will become MVV country: from 2025 with just one ticket to Munich!

A big step for the Weilheim-Schongau district! From January 1, 2025, the region will become part of the MVV family, and that means: one ticket for all journeys! District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß and Dr. Bernd Rosenbusch, Managing Director of MVV GmbH, signed the contracts that officially seal the connection to the Munich transport network. “Now we can get on here very comfortably with just one ticket,” said Jochner-Weiß happily. The district will thus become part of one of the largest transport associations in southern Germany.

The new possibilities are overwhelming! From Schongau to the airport and from Weilheim to Landsberg – everything becomes easier and cheaper. “Every district that joins is a win for everyone,” says Jochner-Weiß, who hopes for a possible expansion into the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district. MVV will serve 800 million passengers annually and organize over two million trips per day. “The only place where more is driven is Berlin,” explains Rosenbusch.

Innovations in ticketing

The future of ticket purchasing is being revolutionized! From December, the MVV app will be equipped with new functions, including the innovative MVVswipe system. Simply check in when boarding and check out when getting off - the system automatically recognizes which ticket is cheapest. “We will continue to stay analogue here,” emphasizes Jochner-Weiß, to ensure that no one is disadvantaged. Special fares for children, seniors and those in need are also offered to make public transport easier to access.

The new MVV zone map will divide the region into a colorful network of tariff zones, and passengers can look forward to a variety of new offers. “Augsburg could also play a role in the future,” says Rosenbusch. There is great anticipation of the new possibilities and citizens can look forward to more convenient and cheaper mobility!
