Munich, November 6th, 2024 – Mobile phone coverage in Munich is receiving a powerful upgrade! In the past two months, Deutsche Telekom has not only built two brand new locations, but also expanded five existing locations with LTE and one with the lightning-fast 5G network. These measures increase mobile phone coverage and ensure improved bandwidth, making the Internet in the Bavarian metropolis faster and more reliable. The reception quality in buildings in particular benefits significantly!
"The need for bandwidth is constantly increasing - around 30 percent per year. That's why we're continuing to expand mobile communications," emphasizes Dr. Markus Jodl, company spokesman for Deutsche Telekom. With now 632 locations in the Munich city area and household coverage of almost 100 percent, the course for the future has been set. And that's just the beginning! Telekom plans to add another 115 locations by 2026 to further strengthen the digital infrastructure.
Status and future vision
Telekom is not only on a growth path: 360 radio masts are to be upgraded with LTE or 5G. In order to be able to implement these ambitious expansion plans, Telekom is cooperating closely with municipalities and private property owners. Telekom currently operates over 36,000 mobile phone sites in Germany and plans to add around 1,500 new ones every year.
