Selenskyj demands European army: Now there is time to act!
The tensions between Ukraine and the USA are increasing: President Wolodymyr Selenskyj refused to sign an agreement to the delivery of important Ukrainian minerals to the USA at the Munich Security Conference. Selenskyj emphasized that this agreement that provided economic support in exchange for military help did not contain any security guarantees for Ukraine. He described the agreement as inadequate and at the same time opened the door for US investments in the raw material sector, since Ukraine has significant occurrence of lithium and titanium that are essential for the latest technologies, such as Kosmo reported.
Selenskyjs worrying location
The decision Selenskyj is part of a desperate call to the international partners. ZDF correspondent Ulf Röller describes this rejection as a "thin-skinned" reaction to the recent discussions between US President Donald Trump and the Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which a immediately starting start of negotiations on the future of Ukraine, without consulting European partners. In his speech in Munich, Selenskyj also called for a European army to decisively counter Russia. "Now the time is," he called to European leaders and received standing ovation for this. Selenskyjs appeal reflects his fear that the Western Allies, especially the USA, could let Ukraine down, such as ZDF reported.
Private calls between Trump and Putin let the alarm bells ring in Kyiv. The fear of a dictation peace hovers over the negotiations. Selenskyj has made it clear that the support of the United States cannot be considered for granted, and made it clear that European countries are now required to become active. Chancellor Olaf Scholz assured the support of Germany and the EU, but the question remains whether these commitments will also exist in the current geopolitical situation. The future of Ukraine is uncertain, and the current developments master the geopolitical tensions in Europe.
