New Flexbus system in Moosburg: This is how the on-call bus works!

On January 1, 2025, a new on-demand Flexbus system went into operation in Moosburg. The official inauguration took place at the aqua park and was attended by District Administrator Helmut Petz and Mayor Josef Dollinger. This innovative on-call bus system replaces the previous Moosburg city bus and offers a flexible mobility solution for citizens.

The Flexbus system does not run on fixed routes, but rather as needed. There are a total of three minibuses available, two of which are wheelchair accessible and can accommodate up to seven passengers. Operating hours are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. The Flexbuses can be ordered after a one-time registration via the MVV app, online or by telephone.

Details about the Flexbus offer

Collection takes place at virtual Flexbus stops, which are only served when orders are placed. The maximum waiting time should not exceed 30 minutes and the walking distance to the stop should not be more than 200 meters. The trial operation of the Flexbus system will run for four years, from January 1, 2025 to December 14, 2028. The operation will be taken over by DB Regio Bus Bayern GmbH. The entire offer cost 718,000 euros, with the state providing start-up funding of 65% in the first year, 55% in the second year and 35% in the third year.

The Flexbus system is intended to be a more cost-effective alternative to a newly advertised public bus. In order to decide whether the system will be expanded to the district, experience will be collected during the trial operation and the number of passengers and costs will be analyzed. The exact process and further information can be found on the MVV Munich homepage available.

The Flexbus system also offers advantages for families with children: Children under 6 travel free but do not need a ticket. These children must be accompanied by a person who is at least 6 years old unless they are of school age. It is also recommended that minors book themselves in order to receive all the necessary information. Map view and live view of the vehicle are available when booking, while any changes for telephone bookings or web bookings are communicated via email.

The Flexbus system in Moosburg is seen as a groundbreaking step towards flexible and needs-based mobility, as well Mercury reported.
