There was a brutal knife attack on a 21-year-old man in Vienna-Penzing on November 17th. The young man was attacked by several unknown perpetrators, one of the attackers pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim. A 44-year-old passerby who tried to come to the victim's aid was also attacked. The Vienna criminal investigators were now able to confirm their suspicions against four men. A 24-year-old suspect was arrested while two other men were charged. The search for another, as yet unknown acquaintance of the perpetrators continues crown reported.

Another tragic incident also occurred in Solingen: a perpetrator randomly stabbed celebrating guests during a city festival on August 23rd, killing three people, including a 67-year-old and two other 56-year-olds. According to the police's investigation, the 26-year-old suspected perpetrator, a Syrian asylum seeker, deliberately stabbed his victims' necks. He went into hiding after his planned deportation and ended up living in a refugee accommodation. The attack was classified as a terrorist incident because the perpetrator was proven to have extremist views. According to federal prosecutors, the man who describes himself as a “soldier” of the Islamic State (IS) wanted to kill a large number of people. He was arrested after the attack and is now in custody while security measures are stepped up for major events, such as fr.de reported.

The investigation into both incidents is still ongoing. A search is underway for additional suspects in both cases and police have stepped up their presence to ensure security. Norway, the Oktoberfest in Munich and other large events are of great importance due to the current security situation.
