The 67th Opera Ball in Vienna was a glittering spectacle that took place on February 27, 2025 and featured prominent guests as well as a historic premiere in the opening committee. Under the motto “Where fun and where madness and desire reigns,” Johann Strauss’ works thrilled the audience in the festive setting of the Vienna State Opera. Artists from the State Opera and the Young Women and Young Men Committee opened the evening with brilliant performances, including the “Imperial Waltz” and the famous “Spring Voice Waltz” by star soprano Nadine Sierra.
A special highlight was the participation of a homosexual couple in the opening committee for the first time, which is seen as a milestone in the tradition of this traditional ball. The evening, which attracted 5,150 guests, took place in the presence of numerous VIPs such as Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and Scientist of the Year Sigrid Stagl. Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg expressed his optimism about the coalition government, while Richard Lugner's symbolically reserved box commemorated his late friend.

In the same breath, the controversial premiere of Richard Strauss' opera "The Love of Danae" was played at the Bavarian State Opera, which oscillates between ancient myths and the composer's emotional storytelling. This premiere, which was nothing more than a dress rehearsal, took place as part of the Salzburg Festival. Due to historical circumstances, the premiere, which was planned for 1943, was postponed for decades, and so the modern production in Munich received particularly mixed reactions from critics.
