Gen z in the crisis: This is how a student fights against the money problem!

Wilma Schneider, a 22-year-old student from Munich, fights against the financial challenges of life in the course of study and also works as a cleaner. After seven hours of hard work, with dirty hair and blurred make-up, she tells of her everyday life and the difficulties that he appear. She has her monthly room budget of 650 euros for just 11 square meters in a shared apartment where she lives with two friends. The total rental is 2000 euros for 60 square meters, which in their opinion is quite acceptable for Munich, although it is also dependent on the support of their parents. "That's not enough. That's why I'm cleaning now," she says, while she takes the pressure of the financial situation with humor.

Wilma feels burdened by the prejudices about their generation. Generation z laziness and lack of work morality are often accused. "I think we are privileged that we can pursue creative professions," she emphasizes. She is in the third semester of her communication design studies and is aware of the associated challenges. "We can study what we love, but that's not always easy," she explains. The debates about gender justice, especially the ban on gender by Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder, are another sign that many of their formative topics are ignored. "It feels like we and the topics that are important to us are slowed down," said Wilma, who follows the developments in politics with concern.

In the context of her professional experience in the fashion industry, the salary for Schneider, which is on average around 2410 euros gross per month, is not perceived as rosy. While young professionals have to expect almost 1980 euros, experienced tailors can earn up to over 4300 euros, which Wilma underlines financial pressure. It reflects that many students in creative professions often remain behind the average wages, which increases the need for a part -time job for maintaining the standard of living. "It's all part of the game, I take it as it comes," said Wilma.
