In the new seedztzrum, the latest technology and a touch of magic ensure that this year's glaring harvested robust and resistant trees emerge. "Our goal is to produce high -quality seeds for the forest of tomorrow," explains Jens Stangl, the deputy technical director of the center. Here the glans becomes a star!

The processing of the acorns is a fascinating process that is reminiscent of a wellness program. First, the acorns are immersed in a special whirlpool, where they are separated from the weak and sick specimens by flow nozzles. "It is like Cinderella: the good ones in the potty, the bad ones in the crumbs," Stangl describes the process. The light acorns affected by pests swim to the surface and are removed by a conveyor belt. The healthy acorns then go through thermotherapy, in which harmful mushrooms are killed-a real wellness vacation for the small seeds!

After their "relaxation", the best acorns are stored in special wooden containers before they either come into the refrigerator or are prepared for transport. Stangl calls this crucial step “sag”. From Hanau we continue to the only state school in Hesse, where the acorns grow into small trees. Lars Brauner from the tree nursery explains: "Here the seedlings are sown and grow two years before they are distributed into the forests of Hesse." Part of the oak seedlings are also delivered to private nurseries to strengthen the forests against climate change.

The new seed benefit center, which was opened at the end of May, can now show what it can do during the main time. With a capacity of up to 100 tons of acorns per year, the basis for the forests of tomorrow is laid. "A decisive basis for the adaptability of the forests to climate change is the use of genetically high-quality seed and planting goods," emphasizes the Hessian Ministry of Forestry.
