Kitzingen celebrates small animal breeding for 135 years: a festival of the drum pigeons!
Kitzingen, Deutschland - In Kitzingen, the dean's center became the setting for a colorful poultry! Instead of the usual prayer, the Catholic Dean Gerhard Spöckl welcomed the happy sounds of the small animal show of the small animal breeding association at the weekend. On the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the association, breeders presented their magnificent animals and celebrated the legacy of the legendary breed pigeon breeder Rudolf Hartmann.
a legacy that inspires!
Rudolf Hartmann, who died in March 2023, was a real master of the Franconian drum pigeons. His son Uwe Hartmann, who headed the club, was proud that the renowned breeder Wolfgang Schymik from Hessen exhibited his animals in honor of Rudolf Hartmann. The event was a complete success, because the hosts from Kitzingen prevailed against the guests from Adelsdorf and Weißenbrunn in the town comparison. With 260 small animals presented, the show was twice as large as usual and attracted 30 breeders!
The judges awarded the highest awards to Birgit and Uwe Hartmann as well as to Günter Weidner and Hans-Peter Hermannsdörfer. The district youth award went to the talented Frieda Karl from Neustadt near Coburg. Mayor Astrid Glos, who was present in the representation of the mayor, praised the association's commitment and paid tribute to the impressive breeding system.
tradition meets preservation
In the past, meat production and egg production were in the foreground of small animal breeding, but today the focus is on the preservation of old pet breeds. The association with its 140 members is passionate about the protection of these valuable breeds. The voluntary commitment and promotion of young people are also very important. Kitzingen not only celebrates his animals, but also the tradition and commitment that is behind this fascinating breeding!
