Cardinal Marx warns: nationalism endangers our social peace!
The German Cardinal Reinhard Marx has found clear words against "primitive nationalism", which is currently becoming more important in the political discussion. At a press appearance in Munich on Friday, Marx emphasized that the motto "Germany First" and the will to urge migrants from the country would by no means lead to solving the existing problems. Rather, such views would lead to further polarization of society and negative economic consequences. Based on the events after the turn of 1989, he explained that the impression that capitalism had won the competition of the systems was deceptive. Many people currently felt "left behind", and it was urgently needed to think about what society really kept together, reported kathpress .
Marx, the Archbishop of Munich and Freising, has repeatedly taken significant positions within the Catholic Church in the course of his career. Born in Geseke in 1953, he studied theology and philosophy and was ordained a priest in 1979. After various management functions, including Bishop of Trier, he was appointed Archbishop of Munich and Freising in 2007 and received the title of a cardinal in 2010. His numerous commitments, such as the management of the German Commission Justitia et Pax and membership in the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, demonstrate his remarkable career in the church, such as Archbihistum Munich
