Erlangen is fighting post-COVID: Interdisciplinary project started!

A brand new research project is starting at Erlangen University Hospital that targets the aftereffects of COVID-19! The “IDV Post-COVID” project receives huge funding of 887,359 euros. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. (TR) Yesim Erim, head of the psychosomatic and psychotherapeutic department, provides interdisciplinary treatment for patients here! Why is this important? Patients often suffer from severe symptoms such as chronic fatigue and cardiovascular problems after COVID. This holistic approach could revolutionize treatment!

The Erlangen team plans to closely examine the effectiveness of this interdisciplinary care. “We combine the findings and create individual reports that give those affected a clear view of their clinical picture,” explains Prof. Erim. Patient satisfaction is our top priority, and this consolidated information saves time and resources! It will be particularly exciting to work with family doctors to examine the course of post-COVID symptoms. How do the treatments work in the practices? Tangible answers should be found here.

An ambitious project

The project period until September 30, 2027 promises a lot of insights: First, the potential incorrect supply will be analyzed. What do family doctors and patients think about it? The disease development of the post-COVID patients after the interdisciplinary therapy is then examined. The medical services of treated patients are compared with those of waiting list patients. The various effects of the therapy, both medical and psychological, are also on the agenda. This innovative project could be groundbreaking for statutory health care!
