Marie Pettenbeck School Wartenberg: New container classes from Monday!
The Marie Pettenbeck School in Wartenberg is preparing to start operations in new container classrooms on Monday after an intensive renovation phase. This interim school is a response to the increased space requirements resulting from the constantly growing number of students in the existing classes.
At the middle school association meeting on Wednesday, association chairman Christian Pröbst and school principal Michael Braun informed about the progress of the work. The final touches on the whiteboards and the computer cabling are still in progress, while the furniture has already all been assembled. The fine cleaning has been completed and everything seems to be ready for the start of lessons.
Financial challenges
But not everything has already been resolved. An important point is the planning of the toilet facilities, for which around 100,000 euros will have to be budgeted in the next budget. In addition, the renovation work will be awarded, which Pröbst announced at the meeting.
The headmaster reported a student population of around 550, which means that the school is very busy. The school is full and there is hardly any room for further development. Braun expressed the hope that the position of a second deputy director will be advertised in January in order to better illuminate the capacities.
However, a new meeting room was added that will be used for team conferences. This is particularly important because there are also serious challenges in school - such as students struggling with suicidal thoughts. Braun emphasized that the school is a reflection of its environment and such problems must be taken seriously.
Protective measures and challenges
Another central topic was video surveillance to prevent vandalism. Pröbst pointed out that a specialist company had previously submitted an offer that was too high and that he was now waiting for a settlement offer. Regardless, he is determined to implement this measure.
A growing problem in schools is cybercrime, particularly secret photographing of classmates. The school principal has already responded by setting up so-called cell phone hotels where students have to hand in their cell phones before classes start. Braun said that it would be interesting to see whether the students can stick to this regulation.
Finally, a personnel change in the school association committee must be considered due to a reduced number of students in Langenpreising, which will lead to the dismissal of the second representative of the community. In the midst of these challenges, the Marie Pettenbeck School in Wartenberg is endlessly grateful for the new rooms provided in the container modules.
