Cranes on a new route: a breathtaking spectacle over Wolfratshausen!

A heavenly spectacle that makes the hearts beat faster! Rods of cranes are currently moving south over the picturesque Upper Bavaria. They have discovered a new route that leads them across the Alps towards southwestern Europe and North Africa. The impressive birds break up for a long way - and they come in almost incredible numbers!

a moment of joy: cranes about Wolfratshausen

In Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, the trumpet-like call of these majestic migratory birds is heard, and the new flight routes delight nature lovers. Sabine Tappertzhofen, managing director for the Landesbund for Bird and Nature Conservation (LBV), became a witness this spectacle when she saw hundreds of cranes in typical V-formation between Königsdorf and Beuerberg. "First I heard her, then I saw her coming - just breathtaking!" describes them enthusiastically.

dr. Miriam Hansbauer, the spokeswoman for the board of cranes protection, speaks of an "extraordinary autumn spectacle". As many cranes as never before, pull on the edge of the alpine beach this year. These Eastern European cranes set off from their rest area in the Hortobágy National Park in Hungarian, across Bavaria before continuing their trip to the French Camargue.

climate change and new routes: A look into the future

Why these new routes are so popular remains a mystery - but climate change and the change in the breeding areas could play a role. Cranes are based on natural landmarks such as rivers and mountain peaks and often fly in good weather. They are not only impressive, but also very adaptable. In perfect conditions, the birds up to 1.30 meters tall can travel to southern Europe without a break!

The return of the cranes is not only a sign of hope, but also the result of decades of protective efforts. There are numerous cranes in Bavaria again today, especially in the Upper Palatinate. The preservation of the wetlands is still crucial for their long -term protection.
