In Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, the highest honor in club life is awarded: the title "Honorary Member". This award is not only a sign of recognition, but also a way to appreciate the tireless use of members who have been faithful to the association for years. The allocation is different, depending on the club, and is often a well -kept secret to the ceremonial handover.

The Thanninger mountain range conservation association d'Wendlstoana is particularly remarkable, where only one lady has this prestigious title. "We are a little more conservative," admits the chairman Paul Miller. The last honorary member was appointed many years ago, and the discussion about a new award is repeatedly taken up. "Perhaps it would be time to think about a new honorary member," added Miller. The SC Gaißach and the Eurasburg volunteer fire brigade also have their own procedures for the appointment of honorary members who are often initiated by proposals from the departments or by active members.

The award itself is often associated with a surprise. The TuS Geretsried ensures that future honorary members do not experience anything about their award in advance. "It's not that easy, but so far it has always worked," reports Chairman Mirko Naumann. At the ceremonial handover, the honored receive a certificate and small gifts that honor their services. And the best? You no longer have to pay a club fee and are invited to special events.

The members of the Königsdorf mountain shooters also have the opportunity to submit suggestions for potential honorary members. The board of directors advises on this and the decision is made in the annual meeting. "In the past 13 years, only two people have been appointed honorary members," explains Captain Jürgen Treske. The award does not bring any personal advantages, but the recognition is priceless.
