District Cup 2024: Running tradition celebrates 30 years of success in Ebermannsdorf!

Ebermannsdorf, Deutschland - The tension was tangible when the award ceremony of the Amberg-Sulzbacher district cup of runners for 2024 recently took place in the Ebermannsdorf gym. This competition, which looks back for 30 years, was celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm! The event not only offered a review of the impressive history, but also to the numerous participants who have been fighting for the medals in the past three decades.

The roots of the cup go back to 1991 when Karl-Heinz Matejcek took the initiative and, together with various clubs, organized the first joint races. Since then, over 40,000 runners have taken part in this competition, including numerous record holders. The participant record of 2,360 athletes in 2008 remains unforgettable. After the pandeme -related declines, the numbers are now back at a pleasant level, with 1,630 athletes last season.

The list of organizers is long and impressive. From the beginning with the Tölpellauf in Ammerthal to modern events such as the Minimaus run in Mendorfer book, numerous clubs have contributed to the success story. The sponsors, above all the Conrad sports funding, also contributed to the stability of the cup with over 15,000 euros.

But not everything remains the same: the popular New Year's Eve run in Amberg will no longer be included in the rating from 2025. The reason for this is the logistical challenges associated with the classification of the participants. Instead, the Hirschau city run could celebrate a return to close the gap. The event rounded off the honor of the best athletes, including the vice world champion in the triathlon of Zibi Szlufik. The joy of the tradition and success of the cup was noticeable for everyone present!
