Solemn plain in Schmidmühlen: recruits stand for freedom!

In the Schlossgarten von Schmidmühlen, the last vow of the year for the recruits of the logistics battalion 472 took place, accompanied by light drizzle and the solemn torchlight. Around 25 soldiers left their vow, while the Army Music Corps from Veitshöchheim provided the background music. Among those present were the Lieutenant Colonel Martin Hillebrand, Mayor Peter Braun and the deputy district administrator Stefan Braun, who all raised the importance of the vow in their speeches.

Lieutenant Colonel Hillebrand emphasized the current global political situation in which aggression and oppression are the order of the day. He made it clear that the words of the vow to "serve the Federal Republic and to bravely defend the law and freedom of the German people", given the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine, would have received a special urgency. Mayor Braun reminded of Germany's commitment to carry out military missions only with a mandate of the United Nations Security Council, and expressed his respect for the decision of the young soldiers, for freedom and democracy.

a solemn act of responsibility

With the vow, the formal inclusion of the recruits into the community of the Bundeswehr is carried out. Hillebrand said that the soldiers were willing to use their lives for the community in an emergency. This is an immovable part of the political system of the Federal Republic. In times of great uncertainties and a brutal war in Europe, which also threatens Germany directly, the service at home is of the greatest importance.

Deputy District Administrator Stefan Braun praised the decision to keep the vow in public, and described it as a strong sign of solidarity and responsibility towards the country. Rekrut Johannes Nikolai remembered the challenging first steps in basic training, which would have taken him and his comrades into uniform citizens. The training was shaped by heights and depths, and the importance of camaraderie was quickly clear.
